UNITED NATION COMMAND and Korean Armistice Agreement

Why in news :-  Recently The united nation commission has found both north korea and south korea guilty of violationg the Korean Armistice Agreement 1953 due to the Korean Demilitarised Zone (DMZ) between the two countries.


UNITED NATION COMMISSION :- 

The USA led UNC is a unified command for the multinational military forces.

It overseas affairs in the heavily fortified DMZ and ensures the terms of the armistice are being agreed upon by North Korea and South Korea.

It was established on 24 th july 1950 in Tokyo, Japan.


Korean Armistice Agreement 1953

The armistice agreement halted the Korean war of 1950-53 and established the Korean Demilitarized Zone the current border between the two nations.

The DMZ run close to 38th parallel line.


Armistice was signed on 27th july 1953 and was designed to ensure a complete cessation of hostilies and of all acts of armed forces in Korea until a final peaceful settlement in achieved .


It was signed by representative of the UNC, Korean peoples Army and the Chinese peoples Volunteer Army.

South Korea did not sign the armistice as it refuse to accept it

It was only Ceasfire and not official declaration of the end the war.

In 1991 North and South Korea signed Par agreeing to refrain aggression.
