Konark Sun Temple
Why In News :- The ministry of New and Renewable energy has launched the complete solarisation of Konark Sun Temple and Konark Town in Odisha.
It is the prime minister's vision to develop the historical sun temple town of Konark in Odisha as "Surya Nagri".
Plan:- It envisages setting up the 10 M.W. Grid connected solar project and vaious solar off grid Application such as solar trees solar drinking water Kiosaks and off grid Solar plants with the battery Storage.
Funding :- 100% central financial Assistance (CFA) support of arround 25cr. from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.
Implementation Agency :- Odisha Renewable Development Agency. (ORDA).

It is located in Eastern Odisha near the Sacred city of Puri.

Architecture
|
The temple is designed in the shape of a colossal chariot. It
is dedicated to the Sun.
Temple is perfect blend of Kaling Architecture
.
There are two rows of 12 wheels on each side
of the Konark sun Temple.
The Seven horses are said to symbolize the
seven days of the week.

Facts
|
The temple is included in UNESCO world heritage
site in 1984 for its architecture greatness and also for the sophistication
and abundance of sculptural work.
The
Konark is the third link of Odisha’s Golden Triangle. The first link is Jagannath Puri and the second link is
Bhubaneswar (Capital city of Odisha).
This
temple was also known as ‘BLACK PAGODA’ due to its dark
color and used as a navigational landmark by ancient sailors to Odisha.
Similarly, the Jagannath Temple in Puri was called the “White
Pagoda”.
It remains a major
pilgrimage site for Hindus, who gather here every year for the Chandrabhaga Mela around the month
of February.
