International Court Of Justice :- It is the Principal Judicial Organ of The United Nations. It was established in June 1945 by the "Charter of United Nation" and began work in April 1946.
It is the only principal organ of the six principal organ of the United Nations which is Not located in New York. It is located in The Hague (Netherlands).
Primary Function -
(1) To settle legal disputes submitted by states in accordance with established international laws.
(2) Act as an advisory board on issues submitted to it by authorised Internationl Organisations.
Member -Total 15 Judges
They are elected to nine year terms of office by the United Nations General Assembly and the Security Council.
15 Judges come from the under following regions -
Three- Africa
Two- Latin American and Carbbean
Three- Asia
Five- Western Europe and other states
Two- Eastern Europe
In order to be elected a candidate must receive an absolute majority of the votes in both bodies.
In order to esnsure measure of continuity one third of the Court is elected every three years judges
Judges are eligible to re-elect
